Musical Instruments in the Church, Part 6: What the New Testament Says II (John 4:21-24)

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on March 24, 2024)

As we come to the conclusion of our short series on musical instruments in the pubic worship of the church, we continue to examine what the New Testament says about their use. The inescapable conclusion of our examination of Scripture is that NOWHERE does the New Testament authorize the use of musical instruments in the church! In many places, we are commanded to “sing,” but never to “play musical instruments.” Clearly God knows the difference between singing and playing instruments – He demonstrated this by His specific commandments for each in the Old Testament. His silence in the New Testament in regard to these instruments is deafening! And ultimately, the first true New Testament worship service concludes with the singing of an a cappella hymn, which sets the pattern for us in the Church Age.
