In the book of Haggai, God (through the prophet) asks the children of Israel to consider their ways. They had begun the work of rebuilding the Temple, but then quit due to persecution. The work then stopped for many years, while they focused on their own houses and “stuff.” God told them to evaluate where they are, and how much they really are suffering because their hearts are focused on the wrong things.
