In the previous episode of David’s life, we see him acting in godly obedience and sparing the life of his great enemy Saul. Today, we see him rushing headlong to vengeance against Nabal, a foolish farmer who had done no more than insult him! Isn’t that the way we are sometimes? Don’t we often act godly on one day, and then fulfill the ungodly passions of the flesh the next? But as God often does, He sent a godly influence – Abigail – to change David’s course of conduct.
