The Last Words of David (2 Sam. 23:1-5)

In 2 Samuel 23, we read the last words of King David. As a society, we attach special significance to the last words people speak, don’t we? In the legal field, a “dying declaration” is admissible over a hearsay objection. The reason is that we believe – rightly so – that the last words people speak are usually not about frivolous matters, but matters of utmost importance. This is the case with David. He tells us of an “everlasting covenant,” and declares that it is his only hope and only desire!
