Elder Buddy Abernathy (preached 1/20/2021)
When Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, Jesus did not mince words: Nicodemus, ye must be born again! But Nicodemus did not understand Him: So are you saying that I have to return to my mother’s womb and be born physically again? So Jesus restated the proposition, using a metaphor to help Nicodemus understand: “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” While the portion of this statement concerning being “born of water” has raised questions among some of God’s children, it actually is Jesus’ further explanation of the new birth using water as an analogy – an analogy that would have been familiar to Nicodemus, because the Old Testament often refers to the Spirit of God as analogous to water. Please listen as Bro. Buddy gives further explains the meaning of being “born of water”.
